When I was in the last year of law school, we did mock trials like role plays. One day, I had been chosen to be the attorney general. As lawyers in France wear a long black gown, this is the outfit which was handed to me.
I was so happy when I put it on for the first time! All these years of strenuous hard work came to fruition in that moment.
However, the lesson I learned that day is about self-confidence and skills. The teacher congratulated me for speaking so eloquently despite my soft voice. He did not say that I had to speak louder. He insisted on the way I was able to use sharp arguments and convey clear ideas with a soft voice.
That day I realized that I did not have to force my voice into being somewhat different. Instead, I could focus on what I was doing well and improve it.
